Alpha R lipoic acid is the form of lipoic acid naturally produced by the body. It is a powerful natural antioxidant, present in all the cells of the body, and which takes an active part in the production of the energy which the body needs to function in an optimal way but which it produces in very small quantity. This supplement therefore energizes and strengthens the body by helping it, among other things, to combat oxidative stress, detoxify the body, fight against diabetes and its complications, inhibit brain aging and optimize the body's resistance against viral attacks.
Alpha R lipoic acid is a sulphuric acid that easily enters and leaves the cells and whose antioxidant action is expressed in both water-soluble and fat-soluble media. Its main property is to directly capture or remove free radicals from other antioxidants. It is also able to recycle glutathione, the body's major antioxidant, giving it an additional means of reducing the negative effects of free radicals in all body tissues. Alpha R lipoic acid has other properties. It supports the liver, whose role is to break down chemical molecules and transform waste produced by other organs. The liver therefore permanently contains many free radicals but also, fortunately, good reserves of glutathione. As long as the balance between these two parameters is respected, the liver remains in good health.
Alpha R lipoic acid is both water and fat soluble, so it is effective in all body tissues and can neutralize many types of free radicals. It also scavenges toxic metals such as arsenic, cadmium, mercury and lead, as well as excess iron or copper. As a sulfur derivative, it chelates heavy metals that preferentially bind to fats, making it an excellent detoxifier. Alpha R lipoic acid is also useful in cases of neuropathy, a complication of diabetes. It reduces the damage to proteins caused by excess sugar. It reverses the negative effects of diabetes on the eyes, nerves and heart. It also improves insulin receptors. Alpha R lipoic acid is also able to increase energy production by facilitating the transport of glucose into the muscles. Indeed, vitamin C and glucose use the same transporter to enter the tissues and are then in competition. If there is too much glucose, there will not be enough vitamin C in the cells.
Alpha R lipoic acid uses other transporters, so it allows the vitamin C to regenerate and avoids an intracellular deficiency. Alpha R lipoic acid is also very beneficial on the ocular sphere: glaucoma, cataract and AMD... In case of cataract, the cornea has a too low content of glutathione. The intake of A lipoic acid increases this content and those of vitamins C and E, which blocks the formation of cataracts.
On the neurological level, alpha R lipoic acid prevents brain aging. It is necessary to use the natural R form, which is more active on the mitochondria, rather than the artificial S form. Aging depends more on the state of the mitochondria than on age itself. These little factories within our cells produce the energy necessary to repair DNA and fight against oxidation... They regulate our metabolism and, if they fail, the conversion of food into energy is less efficient, increasing the risk of chronic fatigue, sarcopenia, fibromyalgia, Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative diseases. Each organism has ten thousand billion of them which produce 40 kg of ATP (key molecules of cellular energy produced by the mitochondria) every day. But with age, oxidation increases and damages the mitochondria, as does poor oxygenation, hypothyroidism, poor fat metabolism, excess insulin, lack of cortisol, stress, as well as all the food, environmental and electromagnetic pollution. These gas pedals of aging reduce the efficiency of the mitochondria which then become more and more fragile in the face of free radicals. This is where R alpha lipoic acid is useful by allowing a better and more prolonged use of vitamin C which regenerates the mitochondria. Finally, in 1997, studies showed that alpha R lipoic acid inhibited the excessive production of cytokines, the so-called "cytokine storm" which leads to an inflammatory response of the immune system. This ability is particularly interesting today in the face of certain forms of influenza.
